Join us for a Community Open House on February 1\, 2024 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Sullivan Center (14350 Tukwila International Blvd). Pizza and light refreshments will be provided. \nYou are invited to provide comment on the Plan before it moves on to the Planning Commission for a Public Hearing in March 2024. \nPlease check out the Plan’s website to take a survey\, read up on recent changes\, and provide your input on the draft Plan. In recent months\, the Planning Commission focus has been on issues of Housing\, Natural Environment and Climate Change\, Land Use\, and Transportation. Please let us know what YOU think! \n_____________________________________________________________________ \nHOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?\nA full periodic review is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to revisit our community vision. DESCRIPTION:Join local neighbor& Forest Steward Debbie for an afternoon impacting the environment. Riverton Park’s large trees are threatened by invasive English ivy and Himalayan blackberry. These large trees are essential habitats for large raptors and wildlife. We aim to reestablish a healthy urban forest to border the community park. This is an example of how Tukwila can support urban wildlife within the park’s systems. \nOpen to the public.   All ages OK \nWhat to Bring\nBring a full water bottle\, snacks for yourself\, weather-appropriate clothes\, and closed-toed sh \n\nWork parties are taking place next to the Gully Gardens P-Patch on the lower section of the park. SUMMARY:Community Police Academy Applications due Feb 23
DESCRIPTION:Now accepting applications for the Spring 2024 Community Police Academy! \nThe Community Police Academy is an opportunity for those who live or work in Tukwila to get an in-depth look at police operations. The program is designed to educate the community on the role of the police department while building and strengthening relationships. This is a free eight-week program\, with the final class being graduation. Classes cover various topics and roles within the Tukwila Police Department. Starting March 5th\, classes will be held in the Justice Center’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) from 6 pm to 8:30 pm on Tuesdays. Class size is limited\, and only those who preregister can attend. Parking is adjacent to the Justice Center on S 150th. \nApplication process and requirements\nTo participate\, you must be willing to commit to attending at least 6 of the 10 sessions. Priority is given to those who live or work in Tukwila city limits. To be eligible\, you must meet the following: \n•  Minimum age of 18 years\n•  Ability to pass a background check\n•  No prior felony convictions\n•  Must attend at least 8 of the ten classes\n•  Attendees who miss more than two classes will be asked to reapply to a later session \nOnly applicants who have successfully registered\, passed a background check and received confirmation of acceptance will be permitted to attend this academy. \nPlease submit completed applications by February 23rd. \nPlease email Brooke Lamothe at the Tukwila Police Department for an application at B.Lamothe@TukwilaWa.gov. \n  \n
