Together\, we can reduce financial stress for caregivers and help create a time of ease and joy for Tukwila children. \n \nWhy help?\n\nThis is your chance to help Tukwila families in need as we enter the winter season.\nThis program relies on gifts and cash for care packages. Last year\, with your help\, we raised $47\,000 in goods and monetary gifts. These generous donations supported 460 youth and their families!\nThis year we expect to serve even more children. WE NEED YOUR HELP.\nSpecial toys\, cozy items\, hygiene essentials\, and grocery gift cards to ensure a healthy\, happy winter.\n\nThis year\, let’s help even more children! Tukwila’s program is called the Green Tukwila Partnership. Together with Forterra\, EarthCorps\, Duwamish Alive Coalition\, Partner in Employment\, the Service Board\, Dirt Corps\, King County Parks\, and the Tukwila community\, Green Tukwila Partnership will care for public parks and natural open spaces across the city. Over the next 20 years\, the partnership will work to restore and maintain 138 acres of Tukwila’s urban forest.  \nDig into Restoration Work Parties\nWhat can I expect at a work party? Work parties are fun\, family-friendly\, community-focused events in public parks or open spaces.   Each work party will have the goal of removing invasive plants\, planting native plants\, or mulching.   No experience is necessary. Training and tools will be provided at the site; all identities are welcome.  Events are rain or shine; any cancelations will be emailed by the morning of the event by 8:00 am. \nWhy is this work important? Healthy parks and natural open spaces are a gift to our city and everyone. They provide places where people can connect with nature\, see wildlife\, and explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest. They also clean the air and waterways\, buffer noise\, provide habitat for local wildlife\, and absorb carbon to fight against climate change. SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed to Build a Duwamish Park Playspace
DESCRIPTION:A total of approximately 200 volunteers from the City of Tukwila\, Delta Air Lines\, and KABOOM!. Volunteers will be supervised by professional playground installers. Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. \n**Please note – All youth under the legal working age for this state will not be able to participate.** \nBreakfast\, Lunch\, snacks\, and bottled water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them. \nWhat to Wear:   The project will happen rain or shine. Please come dressed for the weather. Closed-toe shoes are required; sneakers or work boots that you don’t mind getting dirty are advisable. Please leave valuables at home as secure storage is not available on site. \nSign In:   Please make sure that you check in at the registration table before entering the build site. \nBuild Week Schedule \nBuild Week will run for 3 days from September 25th- September 27th. These rules have been established and agreed upon to ensure the safety\, comfort and respect for all involved. Failure to comply will result in immediate dismissal from the project. \n• Work together\, treat everyone with respect and use family-friendly\, inclusive language \n• Report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior to on-site staff \n• Please comply with all requests from on-site staff \n• Follow all safety guidelines \n• Only pre-approved power tools are permitted \n• Closed-toe shoes are required \n• Youth may not participate in areas of active construction \n• No smoking\, alcohol or drugs \n• The use or carry of firearms is prohibited \n  \nRibbon Cutting Ceremony: \nBuild Week will culminate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a job well done. This ceremony will be held on Saturday\, September 27th at 2:30 PM and last approximately 20 minutes. Ribbon cutting time may be subject to change based on project completion. \n  \nOrganized by KABOOM!

Tukwila has been a Tree City USA for 20+ years – thank you for helping grow our urban tree canopy! \nHow to get free trees: \n\nSelect the right tree for the right place.\n\nBrowse the tree information in the order form  to find a tree that suits your site. Verify there is adequate space for the tree to mature.\nAvoid underground and overhead utilities by ensuring you know where they are: gas\, internet\, water\, electricity\, sewer\, etc. We recommend you call 811\, the free service to help you locate utilities.\nTrees must be planted on private property in Tukwila city limits.\n\n\nComplete the online application by September 15th.\n\nWe will confirm your tree(s) and send information on how to plant them in September. \nSpecies are available on a first come\, first serve basis. Order sooner to ensure availability.\n\n\nPickup your tree(s) at Hazelnut Park on Saturday 10/4/25 between 10a-1p \n\nThere will be staff on site to walk through how to plant and care for your tree. \nYou will be responsible for bringing your tree home. Trees will be about 3′ – 7′ tall. \nIf you are not available on pickup day\, contact staff to determine if a prearranged alternative time is available for you to pickup.\n\n\nPlant your tree!\n\nFollow instructions in the How to Plant Guide and in our video below. Be sure to water your trees after they are in the ground!
