SUMMARY:Restoration at Riverton Park
DESCRIPTION:Riverton Park is a beautiful community park with picnic tables\, a playground\, Gully Gardens P-Patch\, and a walking loop with a natural border that offers something for everyone. \nThe natural plant board of the park has largely established mature trees that support wildlife\, reduce pollutants in the air\, and help to bring shade on hot days. Unfortunately\, these trees are in danger due to English ivy\, which grows aggressively and chokes out native plants and trees. The good news is YOU ARE HERE to help; as a community\, we can save these trees and install a healthy native forest; plus\, it is a ton of fun! \nAll tools\, materials\, and training will be provided at the start of the work party. \nAll ages OK \n4 out of 6 participants registered. \nWhat to Bring\nBring a full water bottle\, snacks for yourself\, weather-appropriate clothes\, and closed-toed shoes. SUMMARY:Restoration at Riverton Park
DESCRIPTION:Riverton Park is a beautiful community park with picnic tables\, a playground\, Gully Gardens P-Patch\, and a walking loop with a natural border that offers something for everyone. \nThe natural plant board of the park has largely established mature trees that support wildlife\, reduce pollutants in the air\, and help to bring shade on hot days. Unfortunately\, these trees are in danger due to English ivy\, which grows aggressively and chokes out native plants and trees. The good news is YOU ARE HERE to help; as a community\, we can save these trees and install a healthy native forest; plus\, it is a ton of fun! \nBucket watering the young forest will be a large part of this work party. \nAll tools\, materials\, and training will be provided at the start of the work party. \nAll ages OK \nClick here to register. \nWhat to Bring\nBring a full water bottle\, snacks for yourself\, weather-appropriate clothes\, and closed-toed shoes. SUMMARY:Restore Tukwila Park with EarthCorps
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Tukwila Park to remove non-native plants like English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry. \nTukwila Park is a 6.5 acre park site and was built in 1934 – the oldest of the Tukwila parks. The site is covered with mature vegetation\, which includes large firs and a variety of Rhododendrons. \nThe Basics\nRegistration is required. EarthCorps supplies gloves\, tools\, water and snack bars. We will teach you everything you need to know! No experience necessary\, just come ready to learn something new! Be sure to sign in at registration when you arrive. \nThis video may give you a better idea of what to expect. \nFor your safety and comfort please bring:\n\nClothing that can get dirty (because it will!)\nClothing that will protect your legs against prickly plants (no shorts\, please)\nSturdy shoes that can handle some mud (closed toed shoes are required such as work boots\, hiking boots\, rubber boots\, etc. NO sandals\, flats\, or heels)\nRain gear and warm layers -OR- sun protection (check the weather!)\nSack lunch and snacks (to refuel)\nFull water bottle (we will have a jug on-site for re-fills)\nTravel mug for tea/coffee\nIf you have a favorite pair of gloves\, feel free to bring them (otherwise we’re happy to provide a pair)\n\nThe event will happen rain or shine! \n**  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP ** \n  \nWhat will volunteers be doing at the event?\nWhile the exact tasks can vary\, our projects focus on improving the forests and parks in our local cities. Healthy and thriving forests are vital to our community because they absorb and filter rain water\, produce clean oxygen\, provide living spaces for wildlife\, and create a place for people to connect with the outdoors. \nIn order to help create healthy forests and green spaces\, the work can include\, but is not limited to: \n\nRemoving weeds (like Ivy or Blackberry)\nMaintaining areas where these weeds have been removed (weeding or spreading mulch)\nPlanting trees and shrubs during the rainy season (often ~Oct.-Feb.)\n\nGroups\nIf you are coming as a group\, the group leaders are expected to have an active role in our events. After registering your group\, please get in touch with volunteer@earthcorps.org to make sure everything is in order. On the day of the event\, make yourself known to the staff (in bright yellow vests) and arrive early in order to help guide your group members. \nYouth Policy\nYouth under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent\, guardian\, or responsible adult. All volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 that are not with a parent or guardian must print and bring a filled out Youth Waiver the day of the event. \nYouth and school groups are welcome to attend; leaders should contact the Volunteer Team to take care of all necessary preparations. \nDirections\nTukwila Park is located at: \n15460 65th Ave S \nTukwila\, WA 98188 \nThere is a small parking lot as well as nearby street parking.
