SUMMARY:Comment on Draft 2026 Surface Water Management Plan - Due by Mar 31
DESCRIPTION:A healthy community depends on well-maintained stormwater systems and surface water environments.  Flooded streets\, polluted streams and lakes\, landslides\, and degrading plant and animal habitats affect everyone.  Tukwila’s Storm and Surface Water System Plan is updated every year to account for growth and development in the City\, changing climate conditions\, evolving state and federal stormwater regulations\, and updates to the City’s Comprehensive Plan.\n\n\n\nDid you know YOU can comment on Tukwila’s Surface Water Management Plan?  The comment period is open now.  Residents have an opportunity to shape surface water policy.  Think about what the water quality in your community means to you.\n\n\n\nThe City values your input and asks that you review the DRAFT 2026 Surface Water Management Plan (https://www.tukwilawa.gov/SWMP2026) and provide your comments and suggestions to SWMP@TukwilaWA.gov by \, .

SUMMARY:2026 State of the City with Mayor Thomas McLeod
DESCRIPTION:I am excited to invite you to my second annual State of the City address on Wednesday\, April 29\, at the Foster High School Performing Arts Center. This event is an opportunity for me to connect directly with the Tukwila community and share how our city is doing\, where we are headed\, and how we can continue working together. \nIn addition to the address\, the event will feature a community resource fair with a variety of government agencies\, nonprofit organizations\, and local businesses offering services and information for Tukwila residents. This evening is not just about hearing from me\, it’s about creating space for meaningful engagement between community members and City staff. Representatives from every City department will be on hand to answer questions and provide support. \nAs a small but vibrant community\, it’s important that we continue finding ways to come together\, connect\, and engage. One of my priorities as Mayor is to create welcoming spaces where community members can interact\, build relationships\, and strengthen our sense of belonging. In a world increasingly shaped by text messages and social media\, face-to-face connection matters more than ever. \nI’m a strong believer in the idea of “third places”— spaces outside of home and work where people can gather\, connect\, and build trust. These can be places like a coffee shop\, the Tukwila Library\, or the Tukwila Community Center. Our State of the City event is one such opportunity to create that sense of community and connection. \nI hope you’ll join me on Wednesday\, April 29\, at the Foster High School Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 5:00pm\, and the presentation begins at 6:00pm. I look forward to seeing you there. \nThomas McLeod\, Mayor of Tukwila

SUMMARY:Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:May 15th is nationally recognized as Peace Officers Memorial Day\, and the week containing the 15th is recognized as Police Week. \nThis year\, Police Week is May 10th  – May 16th.  We will be having a ceremony in observance of Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day on Tuesday\, May 12th\, at 9:00 am.   The ceremony will take place at the flag pole in front of City Hall. \nPlease come and join the observance to remember our fallen brothers and sisters in law enforcement. \nPeace Officer Memorial Day was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as a day to honor federal\, state\, and local law enforcement officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty. Over time\, the observance grew into what is now known as National Police Week\, held annually during the week of May 15. Police Week began informally as gatherings of law enforcement officers\, survivors\, and supporters\, and later expanded through the efforts of organizations such as the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and Concerns of Police Survivors. Today\, it includes memorial services\, ceremonies\, educational events\, and opportunities for families and agencies across the country to come together to remember fallen officers and support one another. \nWe hope to see you all there.
