DESCRIPTION:On July 31\, 1968\, Southcenter Mall opened its doors to the public. When it opened it was the second largest indoor mall in the country. Only a mall in Honolulu was larger. The stores on opening day featured an auto parts store\, drug store\, and a gas station. While stores have come and gone\, four stores\, Bon Marche (Macy’s)\, Nordstrom Best (Nordstrom)\, JC Penny\, and Zales Jewelry have operated since the Mall’s opening. \nThis July 31st\, the City of Tukwila\, Westfield Southcenter\, and the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Southcenter Mall with an evening reception.    \n$50 ticket per person  for the event can be purchased at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/champagne-celebration-tickets-47488205501. Ticket proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital\, the same charity that in 1968 received the entry ticket fee for the grand opening preview (then known as “Seattle Children’s Orthopedic Hospital.”  \n\n\n\n\nCelebrate Westfield Southcenter’s 50th Anniversary in true style.   $50 per person.   This evening to remember will include:  \n\nChampagne Toast\nNorthwest-Inspired Bites\nCocktail Bar\nDJ spinning tunes\nRaffle of experiences and retail to benefit Children’s Hospital of Seattle\nAll proceeds support Children’s Hospital of Seattle\n\nDate: Tuesday\, July 31\, 2018 \nTime: 6-8PM \nLocation: Westfield Southcenter (Level 1\, Macy’s Court) \n\n\n\n\n  \nOther events and activities are planned throughout the year to celebrate 50 years of Southcenter. DESCRIPTION:Held throughout the city!   The 25th  Tukwila Community Garage Sale will take place on Saturday August 18\, 2018.   Save the date to hold a sale at your home at the same time as residents throughout Tukwila.   Clean your closets\, earn money\, shop for bargains and meet your neighbors while you support reuse and recycling. \nThe City of Tukwila will advertise the Garage Sale event in community newspapers and online.   You will also receive a yard sale kit with a small sign and helpful tips. \nThe sale kit materials will be mailed out during the week of August 6th. DESCRIPTION:This Fall come out to explore the Duwamish Hill Preserve while preparing the site for planting in October. You may catch a glimpse of birds flying overhead while working hard to remove invasive species like Scots Broom. This gem of a park is a culturally significant site in our region\, and can use more helping hands to assist in its restoration. Invite your friends\, family\, and coworkers to get your hands dirty at this monthly work party! \nDate: Saturday\, September 15 \nTime: 10 am to 1 pm \nLocation: Duwamish Hill Preserve \n\n  \nTo sign up to volunteer\, and for more information\, please email volunteer@forterra.org\nLearn more:  https://forterra.org/subpage/duwamish-hill-preserve   \n  \nWhat to bring:  Come dressed for the weather (rain or shine) in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
