DESCRIPTION:Global to Local’s Food Innovation Network and IRC’s New Roots program joined forces to bring fresh\, cultural produce to a low-food access neighborhood where the produce is grown by and for immigrant communities. The Tukwila Village Farmers Market’s origin dates back to 2018 when it was operating as a single farm stand – the Namaste Farm Stand\, named after IRC’s Namaste Community Garden based in Tukwila. As New Roots gained access to farmland in Kent in 2021\, existing and new growers gained opportunity to increase their production\, in turn growing the number of beginning farmers participating at the market. In 2025\, IRC New Roots took on sole management of the market after Global 2 Local closed its doors. DESCRIPTION:A total of approximately 200 volunteers from the City of Tukwila\, Delta Air Lines\, and KABOOM!. Volunteers will be supervised by professional playground installers. Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. \n**Please note – All youth under the legal working age for this state will not be able to participate.** \nBreakfast\, Lunch\, snacks\, and bottled water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them. \nWhat to Wear:   The project will happen rain or shine. Please come dressed for the weather. Closed-toe shoes are required; sneakers or work boots that you don’t mind getting dirty are advisable. DESCRIPTION:Competition:     36 holes of medal play. Players will be divided flights based on size of the field with prizes awarded to 1/3 of the field\, both gross and net. Tee Times will be determined by number of entries. \nHandicap:     The tournament is open to anyone 18 years and older\, all players must have a USGA established and verifiable handicap index. The tournament committee reserves the right to refuse any amateur entry or to adjust any handicap index. His lifelong dedication to protecting endangered salmon and restoring justice for the Nisqually Indian Tribe helped shape Washington’s environmental laws and expand treaty rights for Native Americans nationwide. \nJuneteenth has been celebrated in Black communities since June 19\, 1865\, when enslaved people in Texas learned they were free. The news reached them two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth became an official federal holiday in 2021. \nNew this year is a free day celebrating Smokey Bear’s birthday. \n“For decades Smokey Bear has emphasized the importance of fire safety to our communities with his central message: Only You Can Prevent Wildfires\,” Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz said. “As folks are enjoying Washington’s public lands on Discover Pass free days next year\, and especially on Smokey’s birthday\, I hope that they’ll keep his mission in mind and recreate responsibly.” \nNational Public Lands Day was established in 1994 and is held annually on the fourth Saturday in September. It celebrates the connection between people and green spaces in their communities\, inspiring environmental stewardship and encouraging the use of open space for education\, recreation and health benefits. \nWorld Mental Health Day was designated as a free day to acknowledge the power of nature to restore mental health. Studies show time spent in nature boosts serotonin\, dopamine and vitamin D and lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels\, helping our bodies combat stress. \nAbout the Discover Pass \nState land free days align with 2011 legislation that created the Discover Pass\, which costs $30 to $35 annually\, or $10 to $11.50 for a one-day visit\, depending on the point of purchase. The pass is required to park on state lands managed by Parks\, DNR and WDFW. Purchasing a Discover Pass helps all three agencies preserve and conserve public lands for future generations. The Discover Pass legislation directed all three agencies to designate up to 12 free days when the pass would not be required to visit state-managed lands. \nThe free days do not apply to Sno-Parks. During the winter season\, November through April\, visitors to Sno-Parks will need a Sno-Park permit. These permits are available for purchase online or from vendors throughout the state. DESCRIPTION:Global to Local’s Food Innovation Network and IRC’s New Roots program joined forces to bring fresh\, cultural produce to a low-food access neighborhood where the produce is grown by and for immigrant communities. The Tukwila Village Farmers Market’s origin dates back to 2018 when it was operating as a single farm stand – the Namaste Farm Stand\, named after IRC’s Namaste Community Garden based in Tukwila. As New Roots gained access to farmland in Kent in 2021\, existing and new growers gained opportunity to increase their production\, in turn growing the number of beginning farmers participating at the market. In 2025\, IRC New Roots took on sole management of the market after Global 2 Local closed its doors.
