Tukwila Outdoor Expeditions

Dip your TOE into adventure this summer with Tukwila Community Center’s new outdoor adventure trips! Youth ages 10 – 14 will get to choose from a variety of adventures throughout the summer from a hiking club to weekly rock-climbing trips to stand alone explorations trips.  All activities are FREE and must be pre-Registered for.  Space is limited, register ASAP.

Participants will have the opportunity to step out of their comfort zones while making friends, and memories, while doing some learning along the way! We are excited to offer the residents of Tukwila, and surrounding area, this amazing opportunity. For questions or more details email:

Rock Climbing Club (Mondays, July 11 – August 22) Approx. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join us for a 6-week session where your child will learn the ins and outs of rock climbing while also gaining confidence and leadership skills! Classes will take place at a local YMCA that has an amazing outdoor rock-climbing wall. * Participants will meet at TCC each morning and will return to TCC in the afternoon. Please note, no hike on Monday, August 1.

 

Hiking Club (Fridays, July 15 – August 26) Approx. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Come explore for 6 weeks the outdoors of the great Pacific Northwest while also staying active throughout the summer. The Friday Hiking Club will go to a variety of forests and parks that are right in our backyards. Transportation will be provided and locations and exact times are still TBD.  Participants will meet at and return to TCC for each trip. Please note, no hike on Friday, August 5.

 

Stand Alone Trips!

 

1. Evergreen Escape (Olympic National Park) – July 13, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m

We are partnering with Evergreen Escape to take our youth on a privately guided tour of Olympic National Park. “Olympic National Park is remarkable for its ecological diversity and expansive wilderness. Cross the Puget Sound by ferry to the northeast part of the Olympic Peninsula where you’ll explore the moss-draped forests, azure lakes, and striking mountains that define the region.” This trip is going to be a perfect mix of FUN and EDUCATION, an experience your kids will remember for a lifetime! Participants will meet at and return to TCC for each trip.

 

2. Evergreen Escape (Deception Pass/Whidbey Island) – July 20, 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

We are partnering with Evergreen Escape to take our youth on a privately guided tour of Deception and Whidbey Island! Explore diverse & stunning environments on foot: old-growth trees, ripping currents, beautiful bluffs, and rugged shoreline. Don’t forget your sturdy shoes! Take in the sweeping vistas and panoramic views from the bridge, Mt. Erie, and Fort Casey State Park. Learn about the natural and cultural history of Deception Pass and the greater Salish Sea. This trip is going to be a perfect mix of FUN and EDUCATION, an experience your kids will remember for a lifetime!  Participants will meet at and return to TCC for each trip.

 

3. Northwest Trek Keeper Tour – August 3, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

KEEPER ADVENTURE TOURS -CLOSE ENOUGH TO HEAR A MOOSE MUNCH.

Want to get up close and personal with a moose? Stare down a bison? Then hop in the Jeep with one of our keepers, go off-road and experience a 90-minute animal adventure you’ll never forget. Participants will meet at and return to TCC.

 

4. Vance Creek Railroad Ride, August 5th, 9a.m. – 2 p.m.

Enjoy the unique experience of pedaling the historic Simpson Logging Company Railway in Washington’s beautiful Olympic Peninsula.  Nature enthusiasts, birders, cyclists, and rail fans are sure to relish the peace and tranquility of our trip. Participants will meet at and return to TCC.

 

5. Evergreen Escape (Mt. Rainier) – August 10, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

We are partnering with Evergreen Escape to take our youth on a privately guided tour of Mt. Rainier!

“Mt. Rainier looms large in the hearts of Northwestern residents. On a clear day, the beautiful, hulking monolith can be seen from just about anywhere. At the height of summer, lucky travelers and locals alike make a pilgrimage to her flower-flanked trails for the kind of relaxation, fresh air, and peace that only comes with a walk in a quiet, magnificently wild place. We’ll set out on foot for an meandering 3.5-mile loop to experience some of Mt. Rainier National Park’s magic.” This trip is going to be a perfect mix of FUN and EDUCATION, an experience your kids will remember for a lifetime!  Participants will meet at and return to TCC for each trip.

 

6. Evergreen Escape (Mt. St Helen’s) – August 24, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

We are partnering with Evergreen Escape to take our youth on a privately guided tour of Mt. Saint Helens!

“This beautiful journey takes you into the ravaged heart of Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. View the massive crater from renowned Johnston Ridge Visitors Center and experience ecosystems recovering from the 1980 eruption as you walk through the blast-swept National Monument.”

This trip is going to be a perfect mix of FUN and EDUCATION, an experience your kids will remember for a lifetime!  Participants will meet at and return to TCC for each trip.

Camp Tukwilly is back in action again for 2022!  Campers will experience fun and friendship through games, arts and crafts, special activities, limited field trips, and lots of movement!

Who: 1st – 5th graders (2022/2023 school year)

When: June 21 – August 26, M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

TeenVenture Camp: Register

TeenVenture Camp is back!  Teen campers will be on the move with local and regional field trips to parks, pools, and attractions!  Campers will also have opportunities to hang out with friends, do arts and crafts, and enjoy all that the Teen Room and the Tukwila Community Center has to offer!  Make sure to register early and join in the fun!

Skyhawks Sports Camps

Skyhawks Sports Academy is the country’s leader in providing a safe, fun, and skill-based sports experience for kids. Camps provide a wide variety of fun, safe and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Multi Sport: Register

Our Multi-Sport camp is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program we combine 2 -3 sports into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of (2 or 3) new sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self- discipline.

Volleyball: Register

Skyhawks Volleyball takes the energy and excitement of this great team sport and puts it all together into one fun-filled camp. All aspects of the game are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginner to intermediate player and will incorporate essential life-lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship. Our volleyball staff will assist each athlete in developing the fundamental skills of the game through game-based drills and daily scrimmages aimed at developing the whole player.

Tennis: Register

Grab your tennis racket and get ready to play! Whether you’re a beginning, an intermediate or an advanced player, this program will improve your game and help you get more enjoyment from tennis. Our tennis programs focus on skill refinement as well as practice and match play to develop consistent, well-rounded tennis players. Each player is given personal attention and taught through repetition in an enjoyable, lively atmosphere. Skyhawks Sports tennis breaks down the fundamental skills of tennis through easily understood games and exercises to help improve the athlete’s overall coordination and technique. Players learn proper grips, footwork, strokes, volleys and serves during a series of drills designed to teach skills in a fun and dynamic way. In addition to developing a love for tennis, athletes will learn the rules and etiquette that make tennis such an exciting game to play. Due to limited court space, these programs fill quickly.

Flag Football: Register

Skyhawks flag football is the perfect program for your young athletes who want a complete introduction to America’s Game or for those who simply want to brush up on their skills in preparation for league play. Through our ‘skill of the day’ campers will learn skills on both sides of the ball including the core components of passing, catching, and de-flagging or defensive positioning – all presented in a fun & positive environment. The week ends with the Skyhawks Sports Bowl, giving participants a chance to showcase their skills on the gridiron!

Soccer: Register

Skyhawks was founded as a soccer club in 1979. Thirty years later we are still the number one choice for parents looking to refine their child’s fundamentals of the world’s most popular sport. Using our progressional curriculum, our sport-specific staff will ensure your young athlete will gain the technical skills & sport knowledge required for their next step into soccer. This camp focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control. By the end of the camp your child will have learned new life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship, made new friends, and improved their sport skills preparing them to play for the playground or league play!

Beginners Golf: Register

Skyhawks Beginning Golf is powered by Payne Stewart Golf Experiences, the recommended entry-level golf program for PGA Junior Golf Camps. The unique, games-based play program and modified learning equipment make it easier for kids to hit the ball and experience early success. Putting, chipping, pitching and full swing, are all taught through games, simple repetitive motions and learning rhymes that make it easy for young kids to remember and repeat. Specially designed, age-appropriate golf equipment is provided.

Ultimate Camp: Register

Ultimate is a non-contact, action -packed sport played with a flying disc (Frisbee). Seattle Tempest and Cascades are offering safe, instructional Ultimate Frisbee camps. This week long camp will be held for a half day and is tailored for ages 8 – 13 years old.

Summer Playground Program 

Summer Playground Program

Our free drop-in Summer Playground Program for children ages 5 to 12 is BACK!  Staff will be on-site Tuesdays and Thursdays providing recreational experiences such as active games, sports, music, arts and crafts, teambuilding activities, and more!  Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. and a snack at 1:45 p.m., which must be eaten on-site.

Children under the age of 5 must be always accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The program will close during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, or unsafe air quality.

Kung Fu: Register

Join instructor Ricky Thatsanavongsa for “Baat Ying Baat Faat” (8 animals 8 methods) is a neo-classical style of Kung fu that is based on various styles of northern and southern Chinese martial arts. With dedication, practice, and hard work students will learn how to express themselves, maintain health, and discover inner strength. Students should wear comfortable clothes including sweats and T-shirts.

Immersive Music Camp for Teens 13-17 Register Here
Join local musician, Dylan, proud resident and community member for

nearly a decade. The curriculum will encompass the real-world fundamentals of being in a band, learning songs, improvisation, and much more. He will draw upon his extensive background in performing, recording, and composing music as well as empower students through
a life-changing experience of learning to play music with other people. One year of playing desired instrument is preferred. Camp will be held July 11th – 15th from 10am – 1PM at TCC Lunch Provided!
