December 15, 2025: Desimone Levee Breach Information. Evacuation Order in Effect

Avoid West Valley Highway. Tukwila is closing West Valley Hwy southbound at 180th. Kent is closing northbound at 212th. The Desimone Levee has breached. This is a GO NOW evacuation for people in parts of Kent, Tukwila, and Renton. In Tukwila the GO NOW is only for that part of the City that is east of the Green River, south of S. 180th Street and west of West Valley Hwy.

The City or King County has not issued an evacuation for any areas west of the Green River in Tukwila. However, the situation could change and residents and business should be READY in case an evacuation order needs to be issued. More info at https://kcemergency.com

The City is urging residents and businesses in the Southcenter District, West Valley Hwy area, and the eastside of Interurban Ave South (north of I-405 and the north end of Foster Golf Course) to “GET SET” for possible evacuation. More information here

Backyard Wildlife Festival & River Run 5K

May 12, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

As always, the Backyard Wildlife Festival features a marketplace with garden starts, native plants, handcrafted arts and gifts, and the Tukwila Arts Commission Art Show.   Local and regional non-profits will have a variety of resources to help you create summer gardens that attract birds, bees & butterflies while protecting native plants and salmon.    Let’s not forget about the kids – hands on art projects with a local teaching artist, chalk-a-palooza, bubbles and the list goes on.   NEW this year is the River Run 5K, a family friendly 5k run and walk along the beautiful Duwamish River.    Here’s the official schedule  to help you celebrate and learn about urban wildlife and gardening:

9:30 am:       River Run 5K check in opens

10:00 am:   Backyard Wildlife Festival BEGINS, Tukwila Art Show opens

10:00 am:   River Run 5k start

10:30 am:   Live music with Biff, local Tukwila musician

11:00 am:   The Falconer:   Birds of prey talk and demonstration with live raptors

12:00 pm:   Ella Bella Bee and the Pollinators, children’s performance

1:30 pm:       Garden Talk w/ Ciscoe Morris

2:00 pm:       Live music with Pickled Okra

3:00 pm:       Event winds down….
