Dawnland (2018)

June 19, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

| FREE

Join Action Tukwila at the Foster High School Performing Arts Center for a free screening of DAWNLAND (2018), a feature-length documentary film about the forced removal of Wabanaki children by Maine’s child welfare system as part of a systematic effort to coercively assimilate them into white dominant culture, in violation of the federal Indian Child Welfare Act (1978). The film tells the story of the truth and reconciliation commission that was created in Maine by Wabanaki mothers, grandmothers, social workers, and their allies, to give victim-survivors of forced removal a chance to tell their stories, often for the first time.

A facilitated conversation about the film will follow the screening.

Learn more about the film at www.dawnland.org.
