During November Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month in Tukwila, SnackPack is issuing a challenge.
The team that donates the largest number of Cup Noodles in November will win tickets to our spring auction and will be recognized at the event as well as in our newsletters and FB posts.
So, organize your friends, family, service club, social group, business associates or members of your faith community, and register your team today. You will be able to follow the progress of this competition on our Facebook Event Page.
Let others know about this challenge and encourage them to form their own teams. With your help, we can reach the goal of #NoChildHungryInTukwila!
ABOUT HOMELESSNESS IN TUKWILA:
In the academic year 2018-2019 307 students in Tukwila School District met the federal McKinney-Vento criteria for homelessness. This represents 10.1% of our school age children. Compare this to a TSD student homeless rate of 1.6% in 2009-2010. In one elementary school more than 20% of the students met the federal criteria for homelessness as defined in the McKinney-Vento Act.
Here’s where the campaign money goes: The Tukwila Weekend SnackPack Program was launched in February 2015 to provide 7 meals each weekend for our McKinney-Vento students at Thorndyke Elementary. Since then, we have distributed more than 200,000 meals, serving four schools in Tukwila.
Over 200 volunteers worked last year to provide meals to close to 300 students each week. Volunteers come from the Tukwila church community, Tukwila residents, city employees, and local business partners.
