Title VI Program

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 states, “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. To ensure compliance, Congress passed the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987. If an agency receives any federal financial assistance for any program or activity, the entire agency is required to comply with Title VI, whether such programs and activities are federally assisted or not.”

The City of Tukwila assures that, “No person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity, ‘for which the Recipient receives Federal financial assistance from DOT, including the Washington State Department of Transportation”.
