City to Launch new SmartGov permitting system on October 6

Beginning October 6, 2026, the City of Tukwila is making it easier to access permitting and community development services with the launch of SmartGov, our new online customer portal.

SmartGov gives residents, property owners, contractors, and businesses one convenient place to:

  • Apply for and manage construction permits
  • Check permit status and inspection information
  • Submit and track code enforcement reports
  • Access rental housing services and information
  • Communicate with City staff and follow the progress of requests online

The new system is designed to make City services easier to navigate,

more transparent, and more convenient, with improved online access to

information throughout the process.

Whether you are planning a home improvement project, managing a rental property, or reporting a neighborhood code concern, SmartGov will provide a simpler way to connect with the City.

SmartGov goes live October 6. We look forward to welcoming you to a faster, easier, and more user-friendly way to do business with Tukwila.

Important dates for applicants and customers:

  • September 28 through October 2: The Permit Center will be closed to the public while staff completes final permit processing and prepares for the transition to SmartGov.
  • October 1 through October 5: Inspections will continue as scheduled. Inspectors will document results on paper during this period, and the results will be entered into SmartGov beginning October 6.
  • October 6: SmartGov will go live, and the Permit Center will reopen. The full permitting team will be onsite throughout launch week to assist customers and promptly address transition issues.
