The state Shoreline Management Act requires that counties, cities, and towns periodically review and, if necessary, update their Shoreline Master Program (SMP) every eight years. The City of Tukwila’s update started in the fall of 2018 and will be complete in 2019.

Under Washington State’s Shoreline Management Act there are specific rules for activities and development within 200 feet of the Green River. Tukwila is conducting a periodic review of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) to ensure that it is current with changes in law and is consistent with other Tukwila plans and regulations. We are also making some required changes to our rules for critical areas such as wetlands, streams and steep slopes to reflect best available science.
Transportation advisory group volunteer opportunity
Metro and the City of Tukwila have partnered on a Community Connections project to address the local mobility needs of Tukwila residents, and to improve mobility options for residents traveling to, from and around Tukwila. King County Metro’s Community Connections Program brings mobility services to areas of King County that do not have the infrastructure, density or land use to support traditional bus service.
