Planning
Community planning shapes the broad vision for the City’s future and works to find the right balance of new development, essential services, and environmental protection. The Department of Community Development assists the City Council, Planning Commission, and Tukwila residents with developing a vision for Tukwila’s future and setting land use policy to guide decisions toward that vision. The City also coordinates with regional agencies on transportation, growth, and environmental issues.
In addition, the Planning program manages and supports a variety of specialized planning efforts and initiatives, including:
- Critical Areas Ordinance Update
- Ryan Hill Neighborhood Study
- Shoreline Management
- Transit Oriented Development Housing Action Plan
- Tukwila International Boulevard Neighborhood Planning
- Tukwila Tree Giveaway
- Tukwila Urban Center Plan
- Urban Forestry
- Walk & Roll Program
